The Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) has unveiled plans to revamp the traffic system at the Main Street overpass. Significant changes are on the horizon, starting with the removal of traffic signals at the intersection of Main Street and Edmonds Lane scheduled for 8 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 20. Following the signal removal, median access will be closed off, marking the beginning of a new era for local commuters. These alterations come in tandem with the striping of the new Main Street overpass, a process which, barring any weather complications, will inaugurate the shift of traffic onto the new infrastructure by the early hours of Thursday, Aug. 21.
Adaptation will be key for motorists, especially as the new overpass design introduces a permanent median closure on Main Street at Edmond Lane, effectively prohibiting left turns for westbound travelers. This detail, along with the demolition of the existing bridge remnant set to start on Friday, Aug. 22, promises to reshape the driving landscape. According to the City of Lewisville, the demolition work is slated to span across two nights, disrupting traffic as follows: northbound I-35E main lanes and one southbound left lane from Friday evening to Saturday morning, and all southbound lanes of I-35E the subsequent night, with closures continuing until Sunday morning. The managed lanes will bear the brunt of these closures throughout the entire weekend.
