
The Gwinnett County Board of Commissioners recently stamped their approval on a series of initiatives aimed at elevating the quality of life for its residents, with a notable donation from a world-famous athlete leading the pack. As reported by Gwinnett County's official announcement, Lionel Messi's energy drink brand MÁS+ by Messi pitched in $10,000 to support the local Be Active Gwinnett mobile recreation program, promising to enrich Play Days with fresh recreational gear, healthy grub, and wellness kits to take home.
Focusing on safety and security, Gwinnett has aligned with four community improvement districts – Gateway85, Sugarloaf, Gwinnett Place, and Evermore – initiating a partnership that's aiming to upscale the incorporation of Flock Safety camera technology, which is designed for license plate recognition and also it has a motion detection that seamlessly integrates with the County's crime response operations; this technology has been credited with aiding in the recovery of over 1,600 cars and apprehending just as many suspects since 2020, breaking down the investment, each district will see Gwinnett County cover a substantial 40% of the yearly expenditure for this advanced surveillance.
In a move to ensure clarity and accessibility for its populace, the Board also approved a $198,000 contract with United Signs, LLC intended to bring the County's OneStop facilities - now known as Community Resource Centers - under a unified brand that's easier for the residents to recognize and engage with that according to Gwinnett County's press release, the new signage will populate centers in Buford, Snellville, and Norcross.
Infrastructure wasn't overlooked, as the Commissioners greenlit a $2.6 million design/build contract for E.R. Snell Contractor, Inc to overhaul a bridge originally raised in 1962 over the Bromolow Creek Tributary on Ingram Road which will include both the architectural planning and the actual construction, the funding secured through the county's 2023 SPLOST program, this construction is a testament to ongoing commitment to improving the region's structural integrity and streamlining the daily commute of its residents.
