At the break of dawn yesterday, Dunwoody Police were summoned to a burglary in progress at Perimeter Mall's Request Boutique, where suspects had smashed their way in, grabbing an undetermined haul of luxury handbags.
The burglary turned chase initiated around 3:00 am, as the perpetrators, after their heist, stumbled upon an unoccupied mall security vehicle, as detailed by the Dunwoody Police Department. In their bid to escape the oncoming police presence, the offenders commandeered the vehicle and fled. The pursuit trailed from Perimeter Center West to 66 Perimeter Center East, where the confrontation escalated. The suspects aimed their stolen vehicle at law enforcement officers, who responded by discharging their weapons into the car before it crashed, and the suspects dispersed.
Following the chaos, a manhunt ensued with police enlisting K-9 units, a Dekalb County Police Helicopter, ground forces, and even a Drone First Responder in the search effort. It was approximately 8:30am when officers spotted a wounded man emerging from the woods near 70 Perimeter Center East. The individual presented with a gunshot wound and was promptly secured, given medical assistance on the scene, and then transported to North Fulton Hospital.
The Dunwoody Police Department reported that this subject is in stable condition and alert. However the whereabouts of the two other participants in the burglary remain unknown. As per standard procedure, the three involved Dunwoody officers have been placed on paid administrative leave. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has taken the reins of the inquiry into the shooting with an accompanying internal review by the Dunwoody Police.
Information on this ongoing case is sparse, with authorities withholding further details for the moment. Inquiries regarding the shooting itself should be directed to the GBI’s Public Affairs Office, while Sgt. Michael Cheek is the point of contact for all other media requests related to the incident.
