The Utah Department of Transportation (UDOT) has announced overnight lane closures on I-15, which will likely result in significant delays for drivers this Friday night. The closure will facilitate the pouring of concrete for the deck of the new Shepard Lane bridge, marking a significant phase in the I-15 reconstruction project in Davis County. According to UDOT News, the lanes will be reduced to one in each direction starting from 7:30 p.m. Friday, August 1, until 7 a.m. the following morning.
The affected stretch on I-15 is between 200 North in Kaysville and Park Lane in Farmington. While the crews are busy with the bridge, UDOT has asked drivers to be diligent, expecting delays, and to exercise caution in the work zone. The new features of the upcoming interchange include a 10-foot-wide shared-use trail, sidewalks, and a pedestrian bridge to foster better connectivity for non-motorized travel. By crossing over both Union Pacific Railroad and Utah Transit Authority tracks, the interchange aims to alleviate congestion and boost safety.
"This is a big moment in our work to build the new Shepard Lane interchange," Senior Communication Manager Mitch Shaw said. "Once complete, it’s going to make a real difference for families and commuters in this thriving part of Davis County," Shaw told UDOT News. The new structure is expected to be fully operational by late 2026, providing a much-needed overhaul to the current infrastructure.
