Starting September 2, at 9 AM, the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development will begin a reconstruction project on this key section of roadwa. According to Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development's statement, the outside lanes of both the northbound and southbound US 165, and three ramps at the US 167 Kingsville Interchange, will be closed to traffic.
The lane restrictions are aimed to facilitate the reconstruction of the roadway and ramps in an attempt to vastly improve the travel experience. As a silver lining amidst the expected traffic disruption, the inside lanes on US 165, in both directions, will remain open, as well keep running business as usual throughout the duration of Phase 1. Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has provided detour maps to guide drivers around the construction area. All Phase 1 work should wrap up by November 21, with all reopened ramps and lanes to follow.
Phase 2 is set to commence immediately after the first phase concludes, which will entail shutting down the inside lanes and median crossovers by the US 165 / US 167 interchange. The overarching goal of this $6.2 million project, awarded to Diamond B Construction Co., LLC., is to reconstruct and lower US 165 under the US 167 overpass, creating greater clearance to improve safety and lessen the risk of vehicles striking the overpass, as per the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development.
Travelers on US 165 northbound and southbound between US 165 Business (Military Hwy) and US 71 will need to navigate through a 12-foot width restriction. Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development has devised a specific detour for US 165 northbound traffic aiming to reach US 167, directing it via north US 71 toward the VA Hospital and onward to the US 167 interchange, where drivers can head towards northbound or southbound US 167. The plan intends to improve travel in this densely trafficked area and erect a long-lasting infrastructure for the future generations to easily traverse.
