
An intensive manhunt is in progress across Central Illinois for a suspect involved in the shooting of two law enforcement officers from Ford County and Gibson City. According to ABC7 Chicago, the officers were responding to a call about a naked man at his home in Gibson City early Saturday morning when they were met with gunfire. The suspect, identified as 70-year-old David Jordan, managed to evade capture and is currently at large.
The violent encounter occurred about 30 miles north of Champaign, Illinois, leaving both the Gibson City police officer and the Ford County Sheriff's Office deputy injured; however, officials have stated that they are expected to recover. In a development that saw Jordan's house catch fire and become engulfed in flames, shortly after, complicating the scene further, as reported by police.
In a detailed account from CBS News, the incident unfolded around 2:30 a.m., when officers attempted to approach Jordan at his residence, located in the 100 block of Ash Street. "Upon attempting to make contact with Jordan at his residence, officers were met with gunfire," Illinois State Police announced. This confrontation led to the subsequent shooting of the officers, both sustaining non-life-threatening injuries and receiving treatment at hospitals.
Neighbors in the area were alarmed as state police, bearing arms, swarmed in search of the suspect. David Norbot recounted seeing, "Three state troopers came around the house right across the street from me, guns drawn, and went into the house. That house is abandoned. There's no one living in there now." As per the latest updates, Jordan, who was last spotted without clothing, is believed to be dangerous and potentially armed. He may be utilizing a red bicycle for transportation.
