A citywide police chase last night led to the arrest of three men and the hospitalization of two bystanders following a remembrance event for a slain Memphis rapper. The event at Raleigh Springs Skate Park ended peacefully, but a pursuit began when Memphis Police Department officers attempted to stop a "suspicious vehicle" around 7:27 p.m. as it was leaving the gathering. According to Action News 5, the driver refused to stop and was reported to have tried to hit responding officers.
The chase, observed by FOX13 cameras, spanned the city, with the suspect and police vehicles speeding past interstate traffic, according to FOX13 News, before coming to an end near the Mississippi state line. The fleeing vehicle finally collided with another car near East Holmes Road and Swinnea, where the suspects were subsequently detained by MPD. Firearms were recovered at the scene, but no officers were injured during the incident.
Following the dangerous pursuit, two individuals in the vehicle struck by the suspect's car were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. An MPD spokesperson told the press, "Their presence helped prevent further danger at a crowded, community event," as reported by Local Memphis detailing the MPD’s account.
