
A break-in disrupted the start of the work week for one local business owner, with the Memphis Police Department responding to a reported burglary at Pope Street Grocery, located at 797 Pope Street, on the morning of August 4, 2025.
It's believed that the crime took place the night before when, according to the store's surveillance footage, an unidentified man forcefully entered through a side window at around 7:55 p.m., making off with two cash registers, an undisclosed sum of money, and cigars, the store owner discovered the scene the following day prompting the call to the authorities who arrived at the shop at approximately 8:50 a.m. as reported by the Memphis Police Department's news release.
Described as an African American male, the burglar's image was captured on the store's video footage wearing a black shirt over his face, no shirt, latex gloves, gray pants, and light-colored slides. The Memphis Police Department is actively seeking information from the public that could lead to the man's identification and capture.
