In a display of swift law enforcement response, the Memphis Police Department (MPD) has announced the arrest of Derrick White, a 25-year-old suspect connected to a recent case of aggravated assault, thanks to MPD's Aggravated Assault Initiative. According to a social media post from MPD, White was apprehended by their Fugitive Unit yesterday, following an incident where he reportedly choked his girlfriend until she was unconscious.
The arrest followed an expedited investigation triggered on Tuesday when the victim reported the domestic violence incident; the MPD then prioritized the case through their alert system, leading to White's apprehension within a mere 24 hours of the alert being set off. White, who is currently on probation for previous threats made on Facebook Live, is back in custody, and both the Tennessee Department of Corrections and the DA's Office have been notified, while the U.S. Attorney’s Office is now scrutinizing the new charges for potential federal prosecution.
The Memphis Police Department is crediting its Domestic Violence and Fugitive Units for the quick arrest of a suspect, calling it a success of the Aggravated Assault Initiative.
