Miami residents can expect another steamy weekend with high chances of afternoon thunderstorms. According to a forecast from the National Weather Service, showers and thunderstorms are likely, particularly between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m. today, with highs near 91 and heat index values peaking around 103. The chance of precipitation stands at 60%, with potential rainfall between a half and three quarters of an inch.
The pattern persists into tonight, as a "typical summertime weather pattern" continues to dominate the region's weather, with a 30% likelihood of evening showers and storms and lows hovering around 79 degrees. Going into the week, residents can expect similar conditions with daytime highs in the low 90s, and the possibility of thunderstorm activity each afternoon. WSVN's weather report notes that despite more clouds than sun, temperatures will rise into the lower 90s today and heat index values will climb into the triples, with winds blowing SSW at 10 to 15 mph, individuals are encouraged to stay hydrated and utilize air conditioning where possible with the present high humidity and temperatures in the region.
A carbon copy of today’s weather is predicted for Sunday by WSVN, maintaining a high chance of thunderstorms in the afternoon driven by the heat and deep tropical moisture, along with slightly increased sun exposure during the earlier parts of the day. The ongoing weather scenario is underpinned by a frontal boundary to the north of Florida, trapping moisture and contributing to continued high precipitation chances through the weekend.
On the tropical horizon, Florida residents have been eyeing developments in the Atlantic Basin. While Tropical Storm Erin has dissipated, two other systems are being closely monitored. Invest 90L, with a high probability of strengthening over the weekend, seems poised to bypass the continental United States, following Erin's trajectory out to sea; however, it could bring tropical storm conditions to Bermuda, as reported by WSVN. The other system, Invest 99L, is presently positioned between the Lesser Antilles and the Cabo Verde Islands with a lower chance of development but could still impact the Windward Islands with increased rain and gusty winds through Sunday into Monday.
