
Miami residents are experiencing warm and partly wet conditions this weekend. According to the National Weather Service in Miami, skies will be mostly sunny with highs in the low 90s and a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m. Calm winds will shift southeast in the afternoon.
The evening forecast calls for mostly clear skies with lows around 79 degrees, though a stray shower remains possible. Residents are advised to keep an umbrella handy for outdoor plans.
The workweek will begin with similar conditions. On Monday, the National Weather Service forecasts a 40 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms after 2 p.m., with highs near 92 degrees and warm, humid evenings.
Hurricane Erin, a Category 5 storm with maximum winds of 160 mph, has rapidly intensified within the past 24 hours. Flood watches are in effect for Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands, where rainfall could exceed six inches. While the storm is expected to turn northward, Local 10 News reports that Florida’s east coast could see indirect impacts, including rough surf and a high risk of rip currents.
