Miami-Dade County is basking in a new kind of sunshine, the kind that comes from the spotlight of national recognition. According to an official release, the National Association of Counties (NACo) has awarded the county with a staggering 151 achievement awards. This prestigious accolade is in response to the county's innovative initiatives across various departments that have demonstrated exceptional service improvement, cost savings, workforce development, and accountability.
The announcement was met with pride by Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava, who stated, "I’m incredibly proud that Miami-Dade County has once again been nationally recognized for government excellence," according to the county's release. But it's the employees of the county, through their innovation and dedication, that brought home these awards. A shining example of public service and fiscal responsibility, the county has set a prominent benchmark under Mayor Cava's WISE305 initiative.
Among the departments lauded for their achievements, the Information Technology Department was a standout with a formidable 38 awards. Following closely, the Miami-Dade Public Library System garnered a noteworthy 74 awards. They weren't alone in their success; the Cultural Affairs Department and the Parks, Recreation and Open Spaces Department received three and eight awards respectively, celebrating their contributions to the community's vibrancy and wellbeing.
Miami-Dade was rewarded in a celebration of efficiency and productivity; awards were spread across fourteen of its departments. The Animal Services Department fetched one award, while the Community Action and Human Services Department also contributed one award to the county's expansive haul. The Water and Sewer Department, crucial to the basic needs of all residents, flowed into victory with five awards.
