Residents in Miami are bracing for another day of sweltering heat as advisories remain in effect until Tuesday evening. According to the National Weather Service, temperatures are expected to climb with heat index values potentially soaring up to 110 degrees in the afternoon. There is "a 50 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 2pm" today, with the hope that these will help to momentarily relieve some of the oppressive heat.
While the morning commenced calmly with temperatures in the low 80s, the humidity levels made it feel much warmer. The chance of rain begins to significantly increase as the week progresses, which could offer a temporary respite from the humidity that's contributing to the stifling heat index values. NBC Miami forecasts that "scattered downpours are expected but it will be welcomed to help break up some of the heat."
Attention is also being directed towards the tropics, where meteorologists are tracking the development of several systems. There's a low chance of a weather disturbance off the eastern coast of Florida, while Tropical Storm Dexter is expected to maintain its cohesion as it moves away from the U.S. Further in the central Atlantic, another area is being watched with a medium chance of development. Conditions towards the weekend could potentially become conducive for this system to further develop.
Looking ahead to the rest of the week, the National Weather Service indicates a consistent pattern of possible showers and thunderstorms, with a "chance of precipitation is 70%" for Thursday and a similar outlook for the following days. As the week progresses, residents should prepare to not only weather the heat but also navigate through the increased likelihood of rainfall.
