Anthony D. Roberts, a 27-year-old Millbrae resident, was arrested Thursday evening following an investigation spurred by his alarming online messages and an incident involving a firearm discharge within his apartment, according to the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office. Investigations began after deputies were tipped off to the suspect's messages, which indicated potential threats to others and himself and included mention of a gun being fired in his residence, complemented by photo evidence of a bullet hole.
The investigation by the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, in conjunction with the Northern California Regional Intelligence Center (NCRIC), led to the issuance of an arrest warrant, a search warrant, and a gun violence restraining order after intelligence pointed to Roberts, who not only had prior law enforcement encounters but also possessed multiple firearms legally registered to him, based on details from the Sheriff's Office statement. Officials, also supported by the Psychiatric Emergency Response Team, the Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team, and the San Mateo County Narcotics Task Force, facilitated Roberts’s arrest without further incident as he stepped outside of his apartment building on Rollins Road.
Following the apprehension, deputies searched Roberts' apartment, where they discovered an array of weaponry, including four firearms and an illegal assault rifle, alongside a substantial quantity of ammunition, tactical gear featuring a bulletproof vest, and several pills believed to contain fentanyl were among the items seized as evidence, which fit descriptions in the online threats. The search also revealed wall repairs that corroborated the documented gunfire in previous online communication, as shared in the official report.
Charged with possession of a controlled substance with a firearm and the discharge of a firearm with gross negligence, Roberts now faces serious legal repercussions. He has been booked into the Maguire Correctional Facility, reflecting the gravity of the charges in the Sheriff’s Office press release.
