In an overnight incident at a Millbrae retirement community, San Mateo County Sheriff's deputies apprehended a suspect after an alleged burglary attempt. According to a press release by the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office, the deputies responded to reports of a suspicious person at the community on Chadbourne Ave around 1 AM yesterday. The staff discovered the suspect inside before he fled the scene.
Starting a search operation, the deputies fanned out in the neighborhood, and they managed to locate the suspect, Ronald Alfaro Diaz, 19, a few blocks away, despite his initial flight after being discovered by the retirement community's staff. The suspect was reportedly linked to the crime through video evidence and witness statements, leading to his identification as involved in the break-in event.
During the arrest, officers retrieved a stolen cellphone, which one of the residents reported missing, and a stolen package found in the suspect's possession. The recovered items led to Alfaro Diaz's charge of Residential Burglary and Mail Theft.
