The Milton Police Department has once again distinguished itself nationally by securing the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA) accreditation, showcasing their continued adherence to the highest standards of law enforcement service and community engagement. As reported by the City of Milton yesterday, this notable achievement marks the department's persistent commitment to excellence, with Chief Jason Griffin stating, "It's about the work we do every single day to meet and exceed national standards for how we serve our community."
In the mix of America's law enforcement agencies, which number around 18,000, a paltry 750 have successfully achieved CALEA accreditation—Milton's police force being one among just 37 that can boast both CALEA accreditation and State Certification from the Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police. The rigorous evaluation process involved an on-site assessment by a CALEA assessor who examined the department's facilities, interacted with employees, city management, and engaged with community members. Their findings played a crucial role in the Commission's comprehensive review of approximately 200 national standards.
During a CALEA conference in Arkansas, where the accreditation was announced earlier this month, Chief Griffin addressed real-time questions from the assessors, underscoring the department's strong community relations and internal accountability. The award represents the culmination of hard work among all 50 sworn officers and 10 non-sworn members of the department, Griffin highlighted, attributing the success to a concerted team effort.
"Accreditation is a team effort, and this award belongs to every member of the Milton Police Department," Griffin mentioned, thanking staff, city leadership, and residents for their contribution to the safety of Milton. Earning the CALEA accreditation for the fourth time, including its third re-accreditation, is a testament to the department's ongoing dedication to professional service and transparent operations, as per the City of Milton.
