Minnetonka Fire Station 5 has launched 24/7 operations, aiming to improve emergency response in the area. Located off Interstate 394, the station is staffed by nine full-time firefighters who began round-the-clock shifts in late August.
The expansion to 24/7 operations comes on the heels of a concerted effort within the department over the past year. In an announcement shared by Minnetonka's official communication, officials outlined the steps taken, including the onboarding of nine new hires and ushering them through a rigorous six-week academy. A unit dispatching system and up-to-date station alerting mechanism have also been rolled out to increase the efficiency of the city's emergency response.
With this development, Minnetonka now takes pride in operating a trio of fire stations with non-stop coverage. The other two, Station 1 and Station 3, are strategically located along Minnetonka Blvd. in the city's central corridor and on Rowland Rd. at the south end, respectively, as per the City of Minnetonka.
