Travelers in Newton County should expect traffic changes for up to two months as construction begins on a new roundabout at the intersection of U.S. Route 60 and Newton County Route HH (Carl Sweeney Parkway), east of Neosho. Work is scheduled to start Monday next week, the Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) announced.

The north side of the U.S. Route 60/Route HH intersection will be closed for up to 60 days. During this time, traffic on Route HH north of Route 60 will not have access to the highway, though businesses north of Route 60 will remain accessible.

Southbound traffic on Route HH will not be able to continue north past the intersection but will still have access to Route 60 through a temporary bypass. Eastbound and westbound traffic on Route 60 will remain open, but access to Route HH north of the intersection will be closed.

The Missouri Department of Transportation will not provide official detours, but drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes. Signs and message boards will be in place to notify motorists of the changes. Travelers can check MoDOT’s Traveler Information Map for real-time updates on closures and traffic impacts.
