Heads up, Mid-Missouri residents and anyone planning to drive through the area between next Monday and Saturday: The Missouri Department of Transportation (MoDOT) has announced an extensive roster of highway maintenance and construction work that could significantly impact travel. According to an update from MoDOT, several projects and routine operations such as pothole patching, mowing, and pavement repairs are ongoing, potentially leading to lane closures and delays.
Given that all activities are subject to the whims of the weather, schedules may change, so plan accordingly. While traversing these zones, be on the lookout for slow-moving equipment and prepared for potential delays. Boone County has several projects lined up, including on Route V and Missouri Route 124, where culvert replacements are expected, leaving one lane open and flaggers on hand to direct traffic.
Those traveling through Callaway County will need to brace for roadside work on U.S. Route 54 and culvert replacements on Route B, which will result in road closures and the need for detours. Pedestrian facility upgrades along Route J and resurfacing on Routes F and RA are also on the docket and should be noted by locals.
Attention commuters on I-70: ongoing pavement construction from Route B to U.S. Route 63 might shake up your routine, with intermittent and long-term lane closures on the horizon. This is part of the Improve I-70 program, a far-reaching initiative stretching into 2027 which, despite possible frustration with delays, promises a smoother commute in the long term.
Construction work and facility upgrades may inconvenience motorists temporarily, but MoDOT reminds the public that these measures are in service of safer, more efficient travel. Check their website for updates, and remember: buckle up, put the phone away, and heed all traffic signs. Your patience and precaution are key parts of the process as Mid-Missouri roadways undergo a transformation meant to last for generations.
