A fire at the Slate Apartment complex in Bellevue displaced several families and destroyed 12 apartments. The Nashville Fire Department responded yesterday morning to an appliance fire call that spread through the building. No residents sustained serious injuries, though one firefighter was taken to Vanderbilt Medical Center with minor injuries, as The Tennessean reported.
According to WSMV, the fire began in a first-floor unit and spread quickly. Fifteen engine companies, six truck companies, two rescues, and multiple ambulances were dispatched. District Chief Aaron Sparkman said the building is believed to be a total loss.
The Red Cross is assisting displaced residents, and apartment staff are relocating people to other units and properties. Residents described evacuating and losing belongings, including children’s items.
WKRN noted that neighbors provided water to firefighters during the response. Metro Councilwoman Sheri Weiner has started efforts to organize fundraisers for affected families.
The complex previously experienced a fire in 2018.
UPDATE: NFD crews worked defensively as flames spread from the original area into the roof of the apartment building on the Hwy 70 fire.
