A Nashville man with a history of felony convictions was apprehended last Thursday following a foot chase with TITANS Unit detectives. Deangelo Derrick, 39, faced arrest after fleeing on Lewis Street and discarding a stolen firearm during his flight from law enforcement, as reported by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department. The arrest came as a result of Derrick's connection to a July shooting incident involving his girlfriend.
According to a report from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, Derrick admitted during an interrogation to shooting his girlfriend in the leg on July 20 after an altercation erupted between them. Running from detectives on Thursday, Derrick threw the handgun, which was confirmed to be the same weapon used in the July incident.
Derrick now faces multiple charges, including an outstanding aggravated assault warrant. These charges compound a troubling history of violence, including a 2022 domestic assault and violation of a protection order involving another ex-girlfriend, as detailed by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department.
Derrick, whose escapades on Thursday ended with an evasion of an arrest attempt, has found himself back behind bars. He is currently held on a $30,000 bond. As a felon previously convicted, Derrick's possession of the weapon has added to the gravity of his charges. "He remains jailed today," confirmed the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department in their public release on the matter.
