A Murfreesboro Pike apartment turned into a crime scene over the weekend when 61-year-old Timothy Scarbrough was charged with criminal homicide following the stabbing death of an unidentified man. According to the official report from the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department, the incident occurred at Scarbrough's residence at 985 Murfreesboro Pike.
Police were alerted to the situation last Saturday night after Scarbrough called 911. Responders arrived roughly around 8:30 p.m. to discover the victim, who had sustained severe facial trauma to the point of being unrecognizable, and thus far, remains unidentified due to a lack of identification on the scene. Nashville officials are now waiting on the Medical Examiner's efforts to positively ID the deceased.
Detectives interviewed Scarbrough, who shared that he and the victim had been consuming alcohol and drugs throughout the day. He claimed to have exited the premises at around 6 p.m. and returned to find the man dead. "He told detectives that he suspected that the victim had been taking Scarbrough’s drugs and reselling them to him," was noted in the statement released by the Nashville police department. However, inconsistencies in Scarbrough’s account of the day's events have raised red flags against his narrative.
Evidence at the scene did not seem to align entirely with Scarbrough's version of events, and the suspected murder weapon was found in the apartment. This detail further connected Scarbrough to the death, leading to him being unable to disentangle himself from the web of suspicion quickly. As the investigation continues, Scarbrough is being held in jail under a $200,000 bond.
