In a city that's no stranger to the strains of sirens, Nashville has been echoing with a different kind of alarm: the rising tide of guns stolen from vehicles. The Nashville Police Department reports indicate an unsettling trend, as so far in 2025, there have been 601 guns snatched from cars and trucks. To put that stark number in perspective, it's an uptick compared to the 557 firearms reported stolen last year around the same time.
What's more concerning is the majority—in fact, 73% of all reported gun thefts in Davidson County this year—saw automobiles as the source of the stolen weapons. In just the last week alone, according to the same Nashville Police report, 13 guns were lifted from vehicles.
The local authority's response is a plea to citizens to lock up not just their vehicles, but the guns within them, leaving nothing unsecured that could turn into a tool for crime. As noted by the Nashville Police, stolen guns and vehicles often share the stage in crimes like carjackings and robberies.
