Two men have been apprehended following a chase that occurred earlier yesterday in New Bedford, as reported by the City of New Bedford Police Department via a social media post. Ofc. Shawn Raposo had been on patrol when he noticed a suspicious vehicle, which was later confirmed to be stolen, at Victory Park. The car hastily fled upon being noticed, leading officers on a pursuit across the city before it crashed into a parked vehicle near Brooklawn Park. The suspects, wearing ski-masks and rubber gloves, attempted to escape on foot.
After a short pursuit, New Bedford officers managed to take into custody two of the three suspects: Saijah Arnum, 26, and Jozel Grace, 19, according to the police department's Facebook page. A loaded Glock 17, its serial number defaced, along with ammunition and a high-capacity magazine, were seized from the scene. A subsequent search resulted in the discovery of a second loaded firearm, a Sig Sauer, discarded in a Sylvia Street yard.
The two apprehended individuals are facing serious charges in relation to the incident. Arnum and Grace were both charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle. Additionally, "JOZEL was also charged with a number of serious offenses, including illegal possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, possession of ammunition, and possession of a large capacity magazine," as detailed in the department's post. The police are still actively working to identify the third suspect and indicate that supplementary charges may be imminent.
The arresting officers, Shawn Raposo and Hector Rivera, are part of an ongoing investigation, and law enforcement is seeking any additional information related to this incident.
