The City of New Orleans Mosquito, Termite and Rodent Control Board will carry out mosquito control tonight. Trucks will spray adulticides in neighborhoods, including Black Pearl & Audubon and Freret & West Riverside, between 8:30 p.m. and 1 a.m., weather permitting, according to the City of New Orleans.

The City of New Orleans Mosquito, Termite and Rodent Control Board continues monitoring after detecting West Nile virus in local mosquitoes. West Nile virus has been found on both the East Bank and West Bank. Most infections do not show symptoms, but some people, including one from Orleans Parish this year, may develop flu-like symptoms or, in rare cases, more serious illness.

During summer and early fall, mosquito-borne diseases increase. The City of New Orleans Mosquito, Termite and Rodent Control Board monitors mosquitoes weekly and has found more West Nile virus-positive mosquitoes this year. Residents are advised to use EPA-registered repellents, limit outdoor activity during peak mosquito hours, remove standing water, keep screens in good condition, maintain pools and water features, and regularly change water in bird baths and pet bowls.
