On August 22, 2025, the New Orleans Police Department announced the arrest of one Jose Javier Suazo in connection with a fatal hit-and-run accident that occurred earlier in June. According to a report on New Orleans Police Department News, the crash took the life of an adult female cyclist at the crossroads of North I-10 Service Road and Bundy Road.
Around 9:00 p.m. on June 14, a woman was riding her bike westbound with another cyclist when a 2008 Dodge Caravan hit her from behind. The crash threw her off the bike and caused fatal injuries. She died at the scene. The driver didn’t stop, call police, or get help. Later, the van was found abandoned and burned, likely to hide evidence, as reported by the New Orleans Police Department.
Through diligent investigation, the New Orleans Police Department Traffic Fatality Unit was able to identify the suspect vehicle and subsequently Suazo as the driver. The New Orleans Police Department took Suazo into custody and charged him with hit and run driving involving death or serious bodily injury, reckless operation of a vehicle, obstruction of justice, and falsifying a police report.
