The New Orleans Police Department is currently soliciting the public's help in the case of Bria Newman, a suspect accused of committing several financial crimes including mail theft, issuing worthless checks, forgery, and monetary instrument abuse. New Orleans Police Department News reported the details of the case yesterday, describing Newman, a Black female born on June 25, 2002, with a height of 5 feet 5 inches, and weighing approximately 120 pounds.
According to the New Orleans Police Department, a check meant for a business, initially penned for an amount close to $1,100, found its way into illegitimate hands in May 2025 the perpetrator altered the check to a staggering $7,100 after it was snatched, the payee was deftly changed to Bria Newman, and it was then deposited into what is believed to be Newman's bank account.
Newman is accused of changing the amount and payee on a check, which led to a big payout and sparked a police investigation. Officials say this kind of document tampering is a serious breach of trust. Anyone with information should contact the New Orleans Police Department.
