Murfreesboro residents, take note: the city's commitment to the safety of its youngest citizens just got a little more tangible. The Murfreesboro Police Department's School Safety Division isn't playing around when it comes to protecting kids on their way to and from school. As announced in an early morning social media post, a new school zone has been established on Northfield Boulevard near Dover Drive, and it's the latest move in the city's ongoing efforts to keep school zones as safe as possible.
Here's what commuters need to know: Starting now, school zone hours on Northfield Boulevard will be in force from 7:25 to 7:55 a.m. and then again from 2:50 to 3:20 p.m., Monday through Friday. During these specified times, officers from the School Traffic Patrol will direct traffic, ensuring that cars slow down and respect the 15 mph speed limit. Driving through a school zone, new or old, the message is clear – safety comes first, and slowing down will ensure that kids can traverse this route safely.
In the announcement, the Murfreesboro Police point out the precise times to watch your speed, so keep an eye out for those flashing lights because the officers mean business. Reminding everyone at the wheel, the department emphasized the set speed limit: "Please remember: the speed limit in all school zones is 15 mph" – a mandate set in stone aimed at drivers who sometimes need reminding that precious cargo is about the periphery.
For parents and guardians, this is a call to action; everyone in the community must keep vigilant, especially during the chaotic times of school drop-offs and pickups. By adjusting your route, or at least your travel speed, you’d be contributing to a collective effort for children's safety. While the school zone’s primary goal is to protect students, it serves as a reminder, moving through Northfield Boulevard, for a community to look out for one another, especially the little ones, for whom a simple act like crossing the street can prove perilous without our full attention.
