Commuters along Route 21 (Tesson Ferry Road) should prepare for a traffic pattern shift as MoDOT starts its next phase of construction in the area. The changes, which involve maintaining one lane closed in each direction, are due to ongoing bridge rehabilitation efforts over Gravois Creek and the replacement of the bridge deck over Grant’s Trail. According to MoDOT, the new arrangement will commence on Tuesday at 6 a.m., directing traffic onto the southbound lanes between Tiffany Square Park and Green Park Road/Musick.
The lane closures are not the only inconvenience for local travelers; Grant’s Trail users will face closures as well. Safety concerns during the bridge demolition work over the trail mean it will be off-limits during certain times. Specifically, the trail will be closed to the public on September 8, and September 9, if weather permits. MoDOT advises, "When the trail reopens Thursday, September 10, trail users should stay on the trail and avoid crossing the barrier and fencing placed for safety around the work zone under the bridge."
These traffic adjustments are slated to remain in effect through late this year as crews work diligently to enhance the roadway infrastructure. The bridge over Gravois Creek requires significant rehabilitation, and the bridge deck over Grant's Trail is in need of replacement, prompting these extensive construction efforts.
MoDOT has communicated that throughout the construction period, the safety of motorists and trail users is a priority. With traffic being funneled into condensed lanes, MoDOT encourages drivers to be cautious and to expect potential delays in the affected area.
