Travelers in the Phoenix area can breathe a minor sigh of relief this weekend as the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) has confirmed there are no mainline freeway closures scheduled from Aug. 22-25. Motorists are, however, reminded to exercise caution and remain attentive, especially in work zones. The upcoming weekend sees the end of some ramp closures, with an important update on the Loop 101 ramps that have been under scrutiny for repair.
With Labor Day weekend approaching, many will be pleased to learn that existing ramp closures are set to conclude. In particular, the eastbound Loop 101 (Agua Fria Freeway) ramps to the north- and southbound Interstate 17 are slated to reopen by 5 a.m. on Friday, Aug. 29, following their closure for concrete pavement replacement. ADOT advises drivers to consider alternative routes in the interim.
For those inconvenienced by the closures, there's a detour in place—motorists can exit eastbound Loop 101 at 35th Avenue and subsequently travel north to Deer Valley Road or south to Union Hills Drive. Additional routes are recommended, including taking the southbound State Route 51 to reach the downtown Phoenix area. According to an ADOT release, the schedules are subject to change, which may be influenced by factors such as inclement weather or unforeseen circumstances.
