Early on a quiet Sunday in Pembroke, Massachusetts, a scene of chaos unfolded as a black Dodge pickup truck tore through the stillness and into the home of Robert Sideropoulos, causing significant property damage but thankfully, no serious injuries—a testament to the unpredictable ways in which our lives can be upended in the flash of a metal behemoth's whim, in a statement obtained by CBS Boston.
The Pembroke Police and Fire Departments were called to the site on Dwelley Street shortly after the incident occurred at around 3:30 a.m; they discovered the vehicle lodged firmly into the unfortunate homeowner's garage, this incident left tire marks etched on the road as a breadcrumb trail of the driver's unintended journey from a mailbox across the street straight into the structural embrace of Sideropoulos's garage as reported by WCVB.
Awakened by a "loud bang" and their house shaking, Sideropoulos and his family were met with a sight more befitting a Hollywood movie set than suburban slumber—"a truck in your house." "You know when you have a construction site and you hear those big booms from the bulldozers?" Sideropoulos recalled in an interview with CBS Boston that, initially mistook the intrusion for an earthquake.
The driver, who was found by Sideropoulos sitting near the crash site and apologizing, was transported to the hospital with minor injuries. According to Pembroke police, charges are anticipated, including speeding, crossing marked lanes, and negligence. Sideropoulos spent the day speaking with insurance adjusters and urged motorists to drive cautiously, WCVB reported.
