Zohran Mamdani, the Democratic mayoral nominee for New York City, has led all rivals in fundraising for the upcoming election, according to recent financial disclosures. Gothamist reported that Mamdani raised over $1 million between July 12 and Monday last week, with an average donation of $121 from more than 8,000 contributors.
Former Gov. Andrew Cuomo, running as an independent, reported $541,301 in contributions with an average donation of $646. Incumbent Mayor Eric Adams, also running as an independent, raised $425,181 with an average donation of $770. Republican candidate Curtis Sliwa reported $407,332, The Guardian noted.
Mamdani’s campaign currently holds $4.4 million in available funds and is eligible for $2.2 million in public matching funds. The Guardian also reported that Elizabeth Simons, daughter of the late billionaire Jamie Simons, donated $250,000 to a political action committee supporting Mamdani.
The New York City Campaign Finance Board has barred Adams’ campaign from receiving matching funds due to alleged violations. Cuomo has transferred money from his state campaign account and expects about $400,000 in public matching funds for his city campaign account.
Recent polling from the Siena Research Institute and Decision Desk HQ shows Mamdani leading the field by double-digit margins.
