Residents of Oak Ridge have a key date coming up to contribute to the shaping of their city's future. A community open house is set for August 18, where the public can provide input on Oak Ridge's comprehensive plan, guiding city development for the next two decades. The event is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. at the new Oak Ridge Conference Center, as detailed in a recent announcement by the City of Oak Ridge.
The compendium that's been dubbed "Oak Ridge 2045: A Century of Heritage, A Future of Promise," will plot out long-term objectives concerning land use, budgeting and development. The meeting will be an interactive session with the planning staff, allowing residents to provide feedback and ask questions. As stated in the city’s public notification, "We’re excited for this opportunity to share the work of the past few months and receive additional feedback on Oak Ridge’s Comprehensive Plan," Interim Planning and Development Director Jennifer Williams said to the City of Oak Ridge.
Specific implementation steps are expected to be part of the comprehensive plan, building upon the existing City Blueprint. The focus will be on areas including future land use, five designated small focus areas in need of strategic approaches, like downtown and the South Illinois Avenue Shopping area, transportation, and infrastructural strategies, as well as identifying redevelopment and infill prospects.
The open house isn't the first instance of community involvement in the planning process, and the city hopes this upcoming event further cements a collective vision for Oak Ridge's progression.
