For those with a penchant for preserving moments in a tangible form, the Oak Ridge Recreation and Parks Department is gearing up to host the 20th Annual Memory Magic Scrapbook Event on September 19 and 20 at the Oak Ridge Recreation Center. This scrapbooking affair invites enthusiasts to meticulously cut, glue, and emboss their memories onto pages to celebrate this enduring craft.
Amid the digital age's relentless push, the event stays true to its roots, offering a traditional, low-tech experience. Participants can also expect to find a range of vendors and classes, a light lunch, and even a massage therapist to help ease the strain of hours spent bending over albums. The vendor area, showcasing businesses from across the region, will open its doors to the public from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Friday and until 7 p.m. on Saturday.
However, the crop area is an exclusive space for registered participants. Cropping will commence at 8 a.m. each morning and stretch out until the stroke of 10 p.m. both evenings. Registration kicked off on August 19, with options for both online sign-ups at orrecreparks.recdesk.com and walk-ins. For those looking to secure a spot, cropping will cost $35 per day.
The Oak Ridge Recreation Center anticipates scrapbooking aficionados from numerous locales to descend upon their event, all looking to assemble their memories artfully. Potential attendees are encouraged to get in quickly, as the date is fast approaching. According to the department, to garner more details on the event or if questions arise, one can call the Recreation Center at 865-425-3450.
