The chain of events leading up to the arrest began on April 27, 2024 when Livermore Police, responding to a report of shots fired at the Southfront Road La Quinta Inn, found a 26-year-old Oakland woman, and a 21-year-old Hayward man dead from gunshot wounds Livermore Police Chief Jeramy Young stated, "This arrest represents the relentless pursuit of justice," praising the officers, specialized units, detectives' professionalism and persistence, and acknowledging the FBI's critical role in apprehending Vazquez as quoted in the Livermore Police statement.
Immediately after the incident, the Criminal Investigations Bureau of Livermore Police took charge, identifying Vazquez as the suspect who had known one of the victims, as detailed in an article by Hoodline. Initially, authorities had declared Vazquez armed and dangerous, urging the public to assist in locating him while refraining from sharing specifics to protect the investigation's integrity.
