Oakland's storybook theme park, Children's Fairyland, is gearing up to celebrate a significant milestone. As the park turns 75, a grand birthday bash for Labor Day is on the cards. According to KTVU, festivities will begin with a parade starting from the 19th Street BART station at 9:30 a.m., going to the park's iconic entrance.
A mix of events has been planned to mark this occasion, and Fairyland is pushing to ensure a memorable experience for its visitors. Aside from the parade and musical performances, attendees can expect the premiere of "Tío Conejo’s Big Wish," Fairyland’s first fully bilingual puppet show. Fairyland's event page promises performances by Emmy-nominated DJ Lance Rock, circus acts, and a bubble-filled performance by Daisy the Clown.
Kymberly Miller, park CEO, underscored the significance of the celebration in a statement obtained by KTVU: "This celebration honors our past, reflects on our growth, and opens a new chapter in Fairyland’s story." Children's Fairyland, recognized as the country's first storybook theme park, has been a staple in the Bay Area since its opening in 1950 and was a source of inspiration for Walt Disney when planning Disneyland.
Tickets for children are around $18, while adults will need to shell out about $20. All parade participants receive 50% off children’s admission for the day. Fairyland's website details the full schedule, which includes teddy bear picnics, meet-and-greets, and interactive displays, ensuring a day-long celebration from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
For those looking to join in on the fun, Fairyland recommends taking public transportation to partake in a truly community-focused celebration. Collaborating with BART, AC Transit, and the San Francisco Bay Ferry, the park aims to provide a magical journey for all its guests. As stated on Fairyland's event calendar, special arrangements have been made, including a fairy princess greeting at the AC Transit bus stop and a ferry ride from San Francisco's Downtown Ferry Terminal for those coming from across the Bay.
A highlight among the performances is DJ Lance Rock, who is set to deliver two sets replete with stories, songs, and dances, while the Prescott Circus will entertain with youth acrobatics.
