As Palm Beach County grapples with the traffic disruptions caused by the closure of the intersection at Northlake Boulevard and Beeline Highway, county partners are tirelessly working to mitigate the impacts on commuters. The closure, a result of CSX railroad track replacement and signalization improvements, began last Friday and is expected to lift by August 10. Updates are being provided on the official Palm Beach County project webpage, with over 1.3 million views logged for traffic camera streams and detour guidance.
In response to the closure, traffic signals along detour routes have been adjusted to better accommodate the influx of diverted vehicles. FDOT staff are actively monitoring routes and will relay any congestion issues to Palm Beach County's command center for prompt action. Overloaded live camera feeds, while inconvenient for the public, provide essential real-time data directly to traffic engineers who work to keep traffic as smooth as possible under the circumstances.
Signage has been placed strategically to guide motorists along detour routes, including Seminole Pratt Whitney Road and Southern Boulevard among others. Law enforcement is present on-site to assist with traffic and ensure driver safety. For those navigating the area, officials advise adhering to the signposted detour routes and considering travel time adjustments to avoid peak traffic hours.
Despite these measures, there have been hiccups. As observed on Monday and yesterday, significant congestion occurred along Okeechobee Boulevard and at the intersection with Southern Boulevard and Seminole Pratt Whitney Road. The Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office's Traffic Division intervened, manually controlling traffic signals to help ease the situation. Residents have been urged to "stagger their travel times and leave earlier or later, if possible, to avoid peak rush hour traffic," according to the Palm Beach County news release.
