A recent collaboration between the South San Francisco Police Department (SSFPD) and Genentech security has led to the swift apprehension of a burglary suspect. The incident occurred on Wednesday when a man was captured by surveillance cameras breaking into a secured bike storage area at a Genentech facility on E. Grand Ave and stealing a bike valued at $600, as reported in a Facebook post by the South San Francisco Police Department.
The tight partnership between the local business and the SSFPD allowed the officers to review the footage quickly and obtain a clear suspect description. Later that evening, Genentech security recognized the suspect loitering in the same area, attempting to contact the authorities promptly before the suspect fled. The SSFPD's officers quickly responded to canvas the area, which led to them locating the suspect in his vehicle nearby.
Upon conducting a traffic stop, the officers discovered the stolen bike inside the suspect's vehicle. The 29-year-old San Jose male was identified as the individual from the earlier burglary and was arrested and booked into the San Mateo County Jail. According to the SSFPD's social media update, the stolen property was recovered and duly returned to its rightful owner through the Genentech security team.
