Phoenix neighborhoods are set to get a bit more green and a lot more sustainable. The City of Phoenix is funneling $40,000 into the Love Your Block (LYB) Grant Program, aimed at supporting neighborhood-led projects that not only beautify the area but also push forward environmental sustainability. This initiative is a collaboration between the Neighborhood Services Department, Public Works, and Phoenix Water Services.
This year's grants, announced by the City of Phoenix, have a heavy focus on water conservation. According to a release on the city's website, seven out of the eight recipients included water-smart strategies in their project proposals. Each of the eight neighborhood groups will receive up to $5,000 to implement their projects, with funds provided by Phoenix Water Services for four of those grants.
Emilie Brown, Water Conservation Policy Manager for Phoenix Water, highlighted the community's role in sustainability. "Water conservation is not just about individual actions – it’s about empowering communities," Brown told the City of Phoenix. "We’re excited to see residents embracing projects that support our desert environment and make Phoenix more resilient."
The Love Your Block program is not new to the cityscape. It's been fostering local leadership and innovation for 11 years now. Residents of Phoenix interested in learning more about the LYB program or seeking details on how to conserve water can visit the specific pages on the city’s website dedicated to these efforts.
