
Last Friday afternoon, the Phoenix Fire Department responded to a second-alarm structure fire in a commercial area near 35th Avenue and McDowell Road. The blaze, which began around 1:30 p.m., demanded the efforts of multiple firefighting crews, including those from Avondale, Glendale, and Mesa, to bring it under control.
During the challenging firefight, an incident highlighted the risk these responders face; a firefighter was struck by debris and required urgent medical attention. According to ABC15 News, the firefighter was treated at the scene before being transported to a hospital. Fortunately, fire officials confirmed that the firefighter was released after receiving care.
While the fire has been subdued, crews remained diligent, working through to eliminate any remaining hotspots. The cause of the fire is currently unknown. Investigations are underway to determine its origin, with fire authorities committed to uncovering the circumstances surrounding the conflagration.
