A Phoenix man, notably with a prior record for violence, found himself in a volatile situation during his court appearance after being arrested for violating an order of protection. Andorfo Vargas, 33, was detained on allegations of threatening his ex-girlfriend and her family despite a court's explicit instructions to cease contact, as FOX 10 Phoenix reported.
Vargas, who had previously been sentenced for similar offenses, caught the attention of Glendale Police in June when he supposedly breached the order within three weeks of its issuance, engaging in behavior that included sending threatening communications and crashing his truck into his ex-girlfriend's garage. Investigators also pointed to a concerning Facebook activity, where Vargas appeared adorned with a ballistic vest and ammunition. This information was substantiated by official records, per sources.
The disturbances unfolded during Vargas' initial court date, where his disposition quickly escalated to the point that a taser was employed to subdue him. According to court video obtained by Yahoo News, Vargas disputed the claims during his session, stating, "I do have a learning disability. It's documented. I was not aware of how a restraining order works," He insisted, "I am not a physically violent person."
Notwithstanding his assertions, the presiding judge, Jerry Bernstein, emphasized the seriousness of the allegations, citing breaches of the protection order and referencing Vargas's insinuated threats and social media posts. The judge declared a cash bond of $100,000, to which Vargas reacted with expletives and a refusal to comply, leading to the tasing incident. As officials from the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office conveyed, the tumult extended off-camer,a with Vargas ultimately restrained and escorted out of the courtroom.
Looking ahead, Andorfo Vargas faces numerous charges, including aggravated harassment, criminal damage, and noncompliance with a court order. The case continues to evolve as the repercussions of his recent courtroom conduct may further complicate his legal standing.
