The Port of San Diego is sailing ahead with a renewed partnership with Protea Property Management, Inc., to maintain Seaport Village as a bustling bayfront retreat. Since 2018, Protea has been at the helm, credited with transforming the Seaport Village area into a destination for locals and tourists.

"We are proud to continue our relationship with Protea Property Management for Seaport Village," said Chair Danielle Moore of the Port of San Diego Board of Port Commissioners, according to the  Port of San Diego. Growth under Protea's watch has been notable, with near-full occupancy and rising gross sales from $45 million to $68 million since 2019.

Jeffrey Essakow, president of Protea, reciprocated the glowing remarks: "It has been both a privilege and a pleasure to work with the Port to create such a vibrant and exciting experiential destination on our waterfront," he told the Port of San Diego.

Investments totaling nearly $11 million have led to improvements and tenant enhancements, including introducing the new Shorebird Restaurant, Zytoun, Miss Match, Raihan Café, and The Best Donuts. The site has also experienced a cosmetic lift with new branding and upgraded amenities, featuring modern furnishings and a laid-back urban beach area.

Seaport Village's fresh lease on life extends through September 30, 2029, at a cost just north of $1 million in management fees. With a 97 percent occupancy rate, the mix of 57 local and long-standing businesses is a testament to the site's allure and the Port's continued investment payoff.
