Residents of Portland should keep their umbrellas handy over the next few days as the National Weather Service predicts a mix of showers and cloudy skies. The latest update from NWS Portland indicates a 50 percent chance of showers overnight and a persistent chance for rain throughout Friday. The forecast cites "a high near 75" for Friday, with south winds blowing at 8 to 10 mph and the possibility of gusts reaching up to 22 mph.
The moisture-laden trend is set to continue into Friday night when rain is expected to visit practically without fail—NWS Portland places the chance of precipitation at 100 percent. New rainfall amounts "between a quarter and half of an inch possible" set the scene for a wet evening. As for the weekend outlook, there remains a chance of rain Saturday morning, tapering off to a slight chance of showers after 11 a.m., making way to partially clear skies and a high around 77.
Sunday brings partly sunny conditions and similar highs, hovering near 77 degrees. The gradual drying trend appears to stick around, with the following nights slated to be mostly cloudy and the days slowly warming up. By Tuesday, Portland can expect the sun to make a more triumphant return, with "a high near 81."
Looking ahead, the outlook remains bright, with mid-week temperatures expected to climb higher. Wednesday and Thursday should bring sunny skies and highs in the low 80s. While Portlanders navigate humid streets and juggle weather-appropriate attire, they can look forward to gradually clearer skies. In this mix of rain and sun, the city reflects summer’s fickle nature—as NWS Portland notes, Tuesday night will be “mostly clear, with a low around 58.”
