The man who tragically lost his life in Sunday's vehicle collision in Portland's Lloyd Neighborhood has been named. Gerardo A. Ortiz Henriquez, a 24-year-old Portland resident, was the fatality of the incident, which newly revealed details show involved a Lime e-scooter and a tractor trailer. The Portland Police Bureau (PPB) has confirmed Henriquez's identity and informed his family of the heartrending event.
Correcting earlier reports, the Portland Police Bureau's announcement notably clarifies that the incident did not involve pedestrians as was initially speculated. The ongoing investigation by PPB's Traffic Investigations Unit (TIU) seems to indicate that Henriquez was a passenger on the e-scooter, which was being operated by another adult male. This operator sustained injuries in the crash, but thankfully, they are not expected to be life-threatening. TIU is also looking into whether alcohol impairment was a contributing factor in the crash, and it was noted that neither individual on the scooter was wearing protective headgear at the time.
The driver of the tractor trailer, also an adult male, has been described by authorities as fully cooperative in the ongoing investigation. He reportedly was not aware of the collision when it occurred, and preliminary findings suggest his actions did not contribute to the accident's cause. The diligent investigation by TIU continues, and as of this moment, there have been no arrests nor citations issued relating to the event.
The PPB is engaging with the Multnomah County District Attorney’s office to meticulously evaluate the case for any potential criminal charges. In tandem with this evaluation, they are calling on the public to aid the inquiry. Officials urge anyone with information on the crash to urgently contact them.
