An 18-year-old woman has tragically lost her life following a harrowing multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 195 westbound in Seekonk, Massachusetts. The devastating incident, which took place around 11 p.m. yesterday, claimed the life of Abriana Herrera Perez from Providence, Rhode Island, according to NBC Boston. Officials have reported that Perez was pronounced dead at the harrowing scene.
Enveloped by the emergency's urgency, five other individuals caught in the wreckage were sent to area hospitals. Still, their injuries, having occurred in the crash, their extent remained undetermined at the time, as stated by ABC6. The calamity prompted the closure of all lanes on the westbound route, sparking considerable traffic delays that lasted several hours.
Massachusetts State Police spearheaded the potentially lengthy investigation into the causes of the crash. The highway, a thoroughfare vital to many, was paralyzed well into the early hours, not reopening until around 4:45 a.m. today. State police have yet to offer definitive answers as to what led to this tragedy.
In response to the chaos that enveloped the scene, MassDOT officials were swift to alert the public of the highway's closure shortly after 12:30 a.m., a move aiming to inform those who might be venturing onto the road, as noted by NBC Boston. The aftermath of the crash was diligently tended to by crews, striving to restore some semblance of order to a stretch of I-195 marred by the night's events.
