A Pueblo man, identified as Dominick Jesus Salazar, 52, has been handed a 15-year prison sentence on serious drug and firearm charges. The United States Attorney’s Office for the District of Colorado disclosed that Salazar received the sentence for possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and for being a felon in possession of a firearm and ammunition.

During a trial held last year, evidence was presented regarding the circumstances leading to Salazar's arrest on May 23, 2023. Arresting Salazar, Pueblo Police Officers witnessed him partaking in what seemed to be drug transactions outside his hotel in Pueblo. During his arrest, they found Salazar with a loaded pistol in his pocket and cash believed to be proceeds from drug sales. Inside his accommodation, authorities uncovered a stash consisting of 188 grams of methamphetamine and 82 fentanyl pills. An investigation of Salazar’s phone revealed he was peddling drugs from the hotel room, according to the U.S. Department of Justice

"Pueblo is safer because Mr. Salazar is going to federal prison," said United States Attorney Peter McNeilly, as obtained by the U.S. Department of Justice. He expressed gratitude towards the "committed men and women of the Pueblo Police Department and federal partners like the FBI" for their efforts to combat violence and drug dealing in the community.
