Putnam County Fire Department (PCFD) crews lent a hand to their Dekalb County counterparts on Friday, when a house fire broke out in a rural area. According to a social media post by the Putnam County Fire Department, the call for mutual aid was answered with a dispatch of three trucks and eleven firefighters to tackle the blaze at around 2:35 p.m. on Poplar Road.
Upon arrival at the scene, they were met with a single-story home, ablaze, challenging the firefighters with both the fire's intensity and the scorching heat. Water supply was tough to establish, given the locality's seclusion, coupled with the day's high temperature index, making the task at hand particularly demanding. The involved structure, unfortunately, couldn't be saved and was deemed a total loss, though it was reported by PCFD that there were no injuries among the residents of the property. However, several Dekalb County firefighters needed medical attention for minor heat-related issues.
The collaborative firefighting efforts continued throughout the afternoon, and PCFD units were able to clear the scene by 6:30 p.m. The fire department noted that despite the call for mutual aid, they were able to maintain full staffing and coverage for Putnam County. The timely and coordinated response underscores the importance of neighboring fire departments supporting one another in times of emergency.
