Yesterday evening at a shopping store on Grossman Drive, an unexpected and violent event unfolded when a 54-year-old Quincy man was subjected to a carjacking attempt and stabbing while sitting in his vehicle. The Braintree Police Department released a statement via social media detailing the ordeal that took place just before 8:00 pm yesterday. According to the police's post, the man was approached by an individual who started a conversation before abruptly brandishing a knife and demanding the vehicle, bluntly stating, "You have insurance, get out of the car."

The situation quickly escalated into a struggle where the man incurred several laceration-type injuries, the family exiting the store saw the confrontation and their yells along with the intervention of several bystanders spooked the assailant who then fled the scene headed for the railroad tracks; the police were notified and swiftly responded to the scene. The chase for the suspect, who had jumped a fence and ran along the tracks, ensued with officers coordinating to corner him – eventually apprehending the suspect after he dove into the woodland fringe.

The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Justin Kilburn from Milford, MA, is facing multiple charges including Armed Carjacking, A&B with a Dangerous Weapon, Witness Intimidation, and possession of Class B and E drugs, specifically Adderall and Gabapentin. Appreciation was expressed by the Braintree Police Department, who highlighted the "strong cooperation of witnesses on-scene" and commended the "timely, effective, and brave actions of the officers who responded." Medical treatment for the victim’s injuries was provided on-site before he was transported to a Boston hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, and a knife suspected of being used in the assault was recovered by the officers.
