Once adored for the chart-topping hit "Beautiful Girls," rapper Sean Kingston, 35, now faces a starkly different tune as he's been sentenced to three and a half years in federal prison for his role in a $1 million wire fraud scheme. This sentencing comes after both Kingston and his mother, Janice Turner, were convicted earlier this year – the latter receiving a five-year federal prison term last month as reported by Local10.

According to court documents cited by NBC News, the mother and son duo engaged in deceptive practices by using Kingston's celebrity status to lure luxury goods vendors into providing products on the pretense that payment would follow. When it came time to settle accounts, fraudulent wire transfer receipts were sent by Kingston or his mother. It was only after victims filed lawsuits or involved law enforcement that some saw any semblance of the funds they were due.

The fraudulent activities targeted several high-end businesses, including a jeweler, a luxury bed company, an exotic car dealership, and a high-end microLED TV manufacturer. The raid on Kingston's South Florida mansion by a SWAT team in May 2024 was a significant escalation in the investigation that ultimately led to their arrests. While Turner was apprehended during the raid, Kingston was taken into custody at Fort Irwin, a military base where he was performing.

Following their indictment in 2024, the pair pled not guilty to the charges, however, their convictions earlier this year tell a different story. Prior to the sentencing, Kingston was on house arrest, monitored electronically, as opposed to his mother who was held in federal custody, Local10 details.
