The recent officer-involved shooting on 1st Street in Richmond has raised questions and prompted an official investigation. Last Monday, the Richmond Police Department received a distressing 911 call around 5:00 PM, where a man, identified as Angel Montano, was reported to be armed with a knife and behaving aggressively, according to the Richmond Police Department's social media post. The situation escalated when Montano armed himself with a second knife and confronted the responding officers, leading to his death after the officers discharged their weapons.
Following the procedures outlined by the Contra Costa County Law Enforcement Fatal Incident Protocol, the officers involved have been placed on administrative leave, Hoodline reported. The incident, now under the microscope, has the Contra Costa District Attorney's Office spearheading the inquiry to unpack the actions that led up to and included the use of deadly force.
To ensure transparency, the Richmond Police Department has released the body-worn camera footage from the officers involved, Officer Remick and Officer Stocking, as well as the dispatch call and radio traffic related to the incident. "The Richmond Police Department is committed to a thorough and transparent investigation into this incident," the Richmond Police Department stated, while also sharing a critical incident overview video link.
